Happiness is… a web design company who work WITH you not FOR you

The perfect website can only ever be built from a good working relationship between the client and the web designer. Think about it; you wouldn’t expect someone to be able to design the perfect house, or decorate the perfect living room without a serious amount of input from both parties, would you? So, when you choose a web designer or company, it is important to build a relationship with them to ensure you get a website that reflects your company’s needs and expectations.

The most important aspect of designing a website is working together, and from this comes questions, and lots of them. Your web design company should be asking you questions, and you should be asking them questions. The web designer should be asking you questions that really dig deep to find out what you need from the website, and not just what you think you want.

Remember, a good web designer should be there to build a custom-made website for your company, starting from scratch and asking questions to create a bespoke website. Equally, you should be asking the web design company questions, too.

Don’t just give them a brief and expect them to build the perfect website from a few notes. Build a relationship with them, talk about your company, your expectations, and don’t be afraid to tell them you’re unclear when they use any technical jargon. They should be challenging you as much as you should be challenging them, helping to get to the core of what will make the ideal website for your company. Everywebsite is just as unique as every company.

By building up a good relationship early on, you don’t feel as uncomfortable discussing design and usability options. And equally the other way round, you need the designer to feel comfortable challenging any ideas you may have because, let’s face it, they’re the ones with the experience. So remember, to achieve the best possible website for your company, you need to choose a designer who is willing to work with you, and not for you.
